Islamabad: Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the United States' announcement to supply advanced military technology to India.
During the weekly press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated that Pakistan is seriously concerned about the U.S. decision to provide India with advanced weaponry.
He also confirmed that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will attend the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York on February 18.
Commenting on the situation in IOK, the spokesperson strongly condemned the martyrdom of two young Kashmiris and the illegal confiscation of their properties. He reiterated Pakistan’s stance that the people of Kashmir must be given the right to self-determination in accordance with UN principles.
Regarding the recent Libya boat tragedy, he confirmed that the bodies of 16 victims had been identified and that the Pakistani embassy was closely monitoring the situation.
The spokesperson highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding relations with the United States and clarified that the repatriation of illegal immigrants is a matter of bilateral engagement. He stated that any country has the right to deport illegal migrants.
On Pakistan’s ties with the UAE, he reaffirmed that the UAE remains a historical friend of Pakistan. He dismissed rumors of any visa restrictions for Pakistani citizens, confirming that 1.8 million Pakistanis are currently residing in the UAE.
Addressing security concerns, he described the presence of banned militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan as a serious issue. He stressed that Pakistan continues to urge Afghanistan to take action against terrorist elements.
Speaking on Palestine, the spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance in support of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. He emphasized that Pakistan believes Al-Quds (Jerusalem) should be the capital of Palestine.
He also provided details on the recent visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Pakistan, following an invitation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The visit included the seventh session of the Türkiye-Pakistan Cooperation Council, during which various MoUs and agreements were signed. Turkish investors have shown interest in investing in Pakistan.
During the visit, President Erdoğan expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support on the Cyprus issue. Both nations reaffirmed their deep-rooted historical, cultural, and religious ties and pledged to enhance cooperation in various fields, including defense, trade, investment, banking, finance, education, health, energy, culture, agriculture, science, and technology.
